Portrait of Thomas S. Szasz, M.D. (b. 1920). Professor of Psychiatry from 1956 to 1990, Szasz gained an international reputation as the author of such controversial books as The Myth of Mental Illness (1961). Painted by Jerome Paul Witkin (b. 1939). Note: This painting hangs in the State University of New York, Upstate Medical University, Health Sciences Library, Historical Collections, Syracuse, New York and is reproduced here at the Szasz site by the kind permission of the artist, Jerome P.
